Helen Taylor is an artist, writer and award winning Children's Book illustrator. She lives in the Port-side town of Lyttelton.
In 2006 she won Best Picture Book in the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards for "A Booming in The Night".
Reviewer John McIntyre (Radio New Zealand, 2009) described Taylor's illustration as "…absolutely beautiful, intricate pictures, all of our flora and fauna, almost like Audrey Eagle's natural drawings — but her eye for colour is fantastic and almost transcends beauty…"
Botanical art is also an inspiration for Taylor's art. But rather than dealing with the floral, we have birds, bugs and bones laid side by side on the white ground. At times these items relate to one another, at others they might puzzle the viewer. The title is always a clue to that puzzle, if you choose to engage…
"Words inspire my paintings.
Words from poems, stories and songs.
Words from friends or complete strangers.
Words from me…"
